What to Know Before You Go.

Here are some things to keep in mind while planning for a trip to Boston:

1. Check the weather

While Boston in the winter is a beautiful sight, the not so beautiful side of the same coin is that, being so near to the ocean, East coast winters are cold, cold, cold! So if you are planning on making your trip during the winter months then make sure you pack lots of warm clothing. If you are driving be sure to also ready your vehicle for inclement conditions, and keep an eye on the forecast ahead of your trip. If you aren’t one who is used to driving in the snow I would highly recommend snagging some snow chains just in case. Better safe than sorry!

2.Book your trip far in advance

This is just a general good rule of thumb. I learned the hard way how quickly the prices creep up the closer it gets to your trip (more on that later), even when it’s still a couple weeks away. Waiting to book hotels and even last minute reservations for some activities and parking can easily drive the price of your trip up significantly. So air on the side of caution and if you are able, book your trip right when you decide to go (and maybe just double check the cancellation policies as well just in case.)

3.Plan your day and pack comfortable shoes

In my experience, parking in this city is somewhat sparse compared to other major cities, especially if you aren’t local (i.e. you don’t have a residential parking space/pass). My best suggestion due to the prices of many of the parking garages (more on that here). So your best shot is to find one parking space near the things you’d like to do for the day and hoof it. There is also ample public transport and even things such as city bikes that can make the city a bit more accessible if walking everywhere is out of the question for you or if some of your destinations aren’t very close together.
